Our Mission
To develop the individual, intellectual, social, emotional, creative and physical skills of our students to maximise their independence and contribution to the community.
Our School Vision
Sir David Brand School is student focused.
We create rich full lives for our students in partnership with families.
Our students develop the personal and social attributes that form the basis for future wellbeing.
Out students are well prepared to take the next step into work, training and leisure.
We Value learning, excellence, equity and care! We reflect these values in our school with actions that demonstrate:
- a positive approach to learning.
- believing that all students have the capacity to learn.
- holding high expectations for our students and ourselves.
- providing a school environment free from discrimination.
- recognising the differing needs of all students.
- treating our colleagues, students and parents/carers with respect.
- basing our relationships on trust, respect and acceptance of responsibility.
Individualised Planning
Learning for every student at Sir David Brand is highly individualised. We use domains for Pre-primary and Kindergarten, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for Years 1 to 9 and Individual Transition Plans (ITP) for Years 10 – 13. We find that the more parents/carers are involved in the planning process the better our student outcomes will be. Children learn best when they receive consistent messages at home and at school.
SDBS offers families the option of inter-agency Individual Education Plan (IEP) / Action meetings that help to integrate each student’s goals across the curriculum.
We have Department of Health Community and Child Adolescent Health nurses based on site. See School staff section of our website.
Our school-based Chaplain focuses on building community relationships and providing support to our families.
Partnerships with parents
We recognise that parents are the resident experts in their own children. Working with parents helps the school to develop programs that best match family priorities. We are keen to include strategies that are successfully used at home into daily routines at school.
