Therapy

Schools across the nation are reorganising processes to safely manage the tremendous increase in requests for school-based therapy. Our School is keen to honour the commitment to the integration of educationally relevant therapy goals across each student’s curriculum. In partnership with our families and their therapy providers, Sir David Brand School has developed a student-centred process designed to minimise disruption to each student’s learning program.

Therapy delivered during school hours works to enhance educational outcomes and supports optimal health and wellbeing. Sir David Brand School supports therapeutic services for students with the most complex needs, during school hours.

School Priorities for On-Site Therapy:

  1. The set up and management of postural support equipment and programs such as, wheelchairs, walkers, standing frames, positioning, hoisting, and physical skill programs for physical activity, transitions and floor programs.

  2. Mealtime management support and programs for students.

  3. Trials of Alternative and Augmentative Communication systems in line with the Sir David Brand School’s Communication Guidelines.

  4. Special circumstances identified in consultation with the Line Manager or Principal, for example: trauma, surgery, illness, mental health emergency or uncharacteristic dysregulation.
